Research Delegation Visits Harads Arctic Heat
Advancing Biochar Value Chains for a Fossil-Free Industry
Harads Arctic Heat recently welcomed a delegation from Luleå University of Technology’s Energy Systems Graduates as part of an ongoing research initiative on large-scale, sustainable biochar value chains.
The visit formed one stop along a project workshop that followed the biochar value chain from potential forest and agricultural residues as feedstock, through production, to industrial end-users in fossil-free steelmaking. At Harads Arctic Heat, the delegation was hosted by Niclas Norberg, who presented the company’s operations and its role in enabling biocarbon solutions for industry.

The collaboration highlights biochar’s potential both as a replacement for fossil coal in industrial processes and as a carbon sink contributing to negative emissions.
By connecting research, forestry and industry, the project aims to accelerate the development of efficient, scalable and sustainable biochar value chains.
