Our work with the forest began more than 60 years ago
In 1962,
Assar Norberg founded a transport company in Harads focused on timber and forest products. What began as one truck and a timber contract grew into one of the region’s largest family-run employers, working year-round in forestry logistics, snow clearing, district heating and infrastructure.
Our CEO Niclas Norberg, began working in the company as a teenager and later studied engineering physics at Luleå University of Technology. In the early 1990s, Niclas worked as a researcher within in pyrolysis and biomass conversion at the University of Hawai‘i. The combination of engineering expertise and hands-on experience later led him to develop the technology used to produce biocarbon at our site today.
In 2014, we built our first pilot plant, and in 2020 our demonstration facility in Harads became operational. Each tonne of biocarbon produced in Harads reduces emissions by approximately 3.3 tonnes of COâ‚‚ compared to fossil coke.
Today, Harads Arctic Heat is led by the second and third generations of the Norberg family, together with a growing team of engineers, operators, and board with experience in energy, and finance.
