Increased logistic demand as Svenska Kraftnät’s Aurora Line accelerates

June, 2024

Construction of the major cross-border power connection Aurora Line is now fully underway, driving a sharp increase in logistics needs across northern Sweden.

As activity increases along the stretch between Messaure (approximately 80 km from Harads) and the Finnish border, Harads Industrial area plays an important role by providing transport and large terminal for gravel and materials.

Pole transports ramp up as work expands

With Svenska Kraftnät ramping the development off new access routes for the 400 kV transmission line that will cross roads and bridges, the demand for reliable transport of poles used for the transmission line has increased. Harads Arctic Heat is contracted to handle transport to staging points along the construction corridor.

The transports are carried out using configured trucks adapted for oversized loads, ensuring that the poles reach the correct locations as the project advances.

Harads Industrial Area

Local materials available for regional contractors

At the Harads industrial area, gravel and other bulk materials remain accessible for contractors working in and around the Aurora line. This local availability helps reduce hauling distances and supports the intense activity generated by Aurora Line and other regional developments.

Fingrid Oyj. (2024, October)

Aurora Line, built jointly by Svenska kraftnät and Finland’s Fingrid, will connect Messaure in Sweden with Pyhänselkä in Finland via a new 400 kV AC transmission line. Classified by the EU as a Project of Common Interest (PCI), it strengthens Nordic electricity exchange and supports the rapid industrial and renewable-energy growth in northern Europe.
